As an auction house, we mediate between buyers and sellers. Every six months we try to collect the best possible offer and then bring buyers and sellers together through our auctions. Both the entrant and the buyer pay a commission (a percentage of the proceeds) so that the auction house can organize the auctions. Before you auction your possession of stamps or coins, you undoubtedly want to know what the appraised proceeds are. A viewing by one of our experts is the best way to gain this insight. After making an appointment, the valuation can take place without obligation and free of charge at our office. For large and/or valuable collections, we also come to location.

Of all those interested in an auction, only the highest bidders can buy something. Ultimately, the auction audience determines the value of your entry. The larger and more powerful the auction house’s customer base, the higher your yield will be. There are often different buyers who pay the best price for the different parts of your collection. You sell to many and not just to 1, that almost always yields a better net result than cash sales.

We charge costs for this service, which are, from an international point of view, on the low side. After all, it is also in our interest that you know how to find your way to Rietdijk if stamps or coins have to be bought or sold. Auction costs will be charged in the form of a percentage of the proceeds. In this way, the auction house also has an interest in the highest possible yield! Auction costs depend on the value but also on the laboriousness of a collection, and always in close consultation, whereby we keep an eye on your wishes and our possibilities. Guideline: The higher the value the lower the commission, the higher the laboriousness the higher the commission.

Cost of our service for buyers
If you came out as the winner after bidding, you will know the hammer amount. This amount is increased by our auction commission (a percentage over the hammerprice) and the lot fee (fixed amount). The current rates can be found in the auction catalogue. Please note: that shipping and possible customsfees will also apply depending weight and destination.
Viewing
Viewing days
Because you would like to see what you are buying, you can use the extensive options in advance to view the offer at the auction. Moreover, the authenticity and condition of stamps and coins sold separately is guaranteed by Rietdijk. The more expensive stamps and coins often come with an inspection certificate or a (photo) certificate. You also have the right to have the stamp or coin inspected or re-inspected, if you indicate this within two weeks of purchase.
Prior to the auction, all interested parties will be given ample opportunity to view the material on offer. There will be more than two weeks of viewing time for the stamp auction, including the last weekend before the auction. The coin auction has a viewing period of one week.

All lots remains in the office during the auction. During the auction days there is also the opportunity to view, albeit limited. Because it is often very busy during this period, we advise you to consider this viewing option as an extra. Pre-auction Expertizing
Sometimes it is necessary to have more expensive stamps or coins inspected. For example, if the authenticity or condition is dubious, or if we believe that it has been inspected and with a certificate of authenticity will yield a higher price. Where appropriate, we will be happy to explain the specific reason. The inspections are only performed by recognized specialists. The costs of pre-auction inspections will be passed on to the entrant.
Expertizing after the auction
Pursuant to the general terms and conditions, buyers at the auction have the right to have the purchased item inspected or re-inspected. This only applies to individual issues and not to folders, collections and boxes. If the buyer wishes to proceed with an (re)inspection, he must notify us of this no later than fourteen days after the end of the auction. Because an inspection can take some time, the payment to the entrant will be suspended until the result is known.
Handling inspection after the auction
After approval, the sale is confirmed. The submitter receives his money and the buyer must also pay the inspection costs in addition to the purchase amount. In case of rejection, the purchase will be nullified. The sender will receive the rejected material back and will have to pay the inspection costs.
Experts
For stamps of the Netherlands and Overseas Kingdoms, Rietdijk only accepts inspections from the NVPH (Dutch Association of Stamp Traders) or the NBFV (Dutch Association of Philatelist Associations). In the event of an inspection by others, Rietdijk retains the right of re-inspection in accordance with the auction conditions. This can take quite some time, especially for foreign material. Please bear this in mind when making your expertizing requests.

Visiting and participating in an auction is certainly an experience for the first time. In addition to the tension, which is almost palpable, there is often a friendly atmosphere among the many visitors in the auction room. Half an hour before the start of an auction session, we start issuing the bid numbers at the entrance of the auction room. You must fill in a form with your personal details. The bid numbers will also remain available during the auction.
The moment the auctioneer calls up a lot you want, you can take action by holding up your bid number. Taking into account the bidding steps stated in the auction catalog, he will then increase the bid until you are the only remaining bidder. The lot will then be struck at you. If the price becomes too high for you during the bidding, then you lower the bidding number, as a sign that you drop out. Some lots will be auctioned at or just above the starting price, other auction numbers can fetch multiples of the startprice.
Online bidding
Online bidding connected to the auction room
We give interested parties the opportunity to bid live (connected via the internet) on lots that are being auctioned. For this you must first register (just like in the auction room). You can do that here. After registration you will receive a login name, a password and a credit limit to participate in the auction via RietdijkLive. This way you can also participate in the Rietdijk auctions from home or on the road. You can bid with a PC, laptop, tablet or telephone and special software is not required. Online bid numbers are automatically issued by the system.
Note: The auction and bidding is “very fast.” The settlement of the purchases and invoice proceeds just as you would have made written bids, after the auction you will automatically receive a message, first automated the day of the auction and after checking by our team the formal invoice in the days after the auction.
Note: You can find the start times of the sessions in the current auction catalogue. If you wish to bid online for both the stamp auction and the coin auction, you must register separately for both auctions! An account once created remains usable for subsequent auctions.

Written bids
Biding in writing
In addition to in person and online, you can also bid in writing at our auctions. To do this, you must fill in a bidding slip. The auctioneer will treat your bids as if you were sitting in the room and will purchase the bid as cheaply as possible for you, until the maximum specified by you has been reached. Payments can be made in cash, with pin or, by appointment, by bank transfer.
We do not accept credit cards or PayPal.
Opening hours for cash payments
Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 4.45pm. Identification is required for direct sales of goods.
A copy of your proof of identity will be made and a purchase statement will be drawn up.
Cash payments over € 10.000,– are not allowed in any case.

Shipping / Pickup
Pick up invoice and purchases
After you have successfully completed your bid(s), you can have an invoice made at the place where your bid number was issued. With this invoice you can pick up the purchased item at our office. In the weeks after the auction, all invoices are made for the written and online bidders. These can be picked up at our office or shipped against shipping costs.
Online bidders via RietdijkLive have to indicate there whether they will pick up lots or whether we should send them to them.
Important!
Indicate in RietdijkLive either pickup or shipping! And do this direct after the auction!
Bidders/winners that have made indications precede those who have not made an indication regarding shipping or pickup.
