Various ways to bid
You can participate in the auction in various ways. Below we briefly explain the various options in which you can submit bids to us or actively participate in the auction yourself. Each way of bidding has several advantages but also limitations.
1. Bidding scheme
Bidding scheme
During the auction, the price of the lot is increased by bidding (we will not go down compared to the starting price). The schedule with which the prices are increased depends on the amount. The bidding steps can be found here in the bidding scheme. Sometimes by receiving multiple bids, the auctioneer will bet a lot significantly higher than the starting price during the auction. The next possible bidding step is then the next raise. (Inzetten=) Starting prices, they are the minimum sellingprice.
2. Room bidding
Room bidding
The auction is organized in a room where the lots are auctioned under the control of a bailiff. The lots are called 1 by 1 and you can purchase lots in the room using a bid number. The bidding numbers will be issued half an hour before the session, accompanied by identification and address details. Bid numbers are only issued to customers known to us, so you will have to leave your details with the administration in order to participate in the auction. Only adult customers can make room bids. You make these bids yourself, which is done by holding up your bid number until your “limit” is reached.
3. Phone bidding
Bidding by phone
Bidding by telephone is only possible in exceptional cases, then you can bid at the same time as the live auction. Consult the current auction catalogs for this. Telephone bids are only possible on special lots. You can indicate before the auction that you would like to be called for a specific lot. As soon as the lot is up for auction, an employee will contact you and guide you through the bidding process on the lot. Our employee will carry out your bids according to your instructions. Our employee will keep you informed of the bid and you may or may not express your interest in bidding again if you are not the highest bidder.
Note: We strongly encourage to bid via RietdijkLive as this works faster and avoids mistakes.
4.Written bids (in advance)
Bidding in writing (prior to the auction)
Written bids can be made using the bidding slip which can be found in any auction catalog or downloaded from our website. Please ensure that written bids are submitted to the auction house in good time! In the case of identical bids, the first bid received takes precedence.
Written bids can be made using the aforementioned bid slip, but also by e-mail. It is wise to check correct receipt of your bid after sending. This can be done by telephone or e-mail. That way you can be sure that your bid reaches us well before the auction and we can carry it out for you. Written bids are executed and kept in the room by the auctioneer. Of course we try to buy for you as cheaply as possible. You can enter any amount, it is wise to see what amount the lot is now on, so check RietdijkLive before you send your written bid, the startprices in the paper catalogue get outdated fast! Under bids (bids below the inzet/startprice) will not generate any result.
More information about bidding can be found here.
5. Online bidding (via RietdijkLive)

Pre-bid / Voor bieden (RietdijkLive)
Via the special bidding website Rietdijklive it is possible to bid on the offered lots for the live auction. A RietdijkLive account is of course also required for this. Pre-bids are written bids that you can submit via Rietdijklive, the auctioneer will conduct these bids for you, on a separate written number. These are immediately checked and entered by us. In this way you already have insight in advance into the options in terms of allocating lots, because several written bids have been made for the auction on various lots and you can therefore possibly adjust your strategy accordingly. Pre-bids are confirmed by RietdijkLive (automated), you will receive an e-mail of receipt of your Pre-bids.
You can request a RietdijkLive account here.
Pre-bids you enter yourself, but they are checked by us and then entered into the database by us, as if they were regular written bids. You can enter any amount above the lot’s current starting price.
The bid form, to make written bids prior to the auction, can be found here. The auctioneer carries out these bids for you during the auction. Of course he will try to buy for you as cheaply as possible! You can download this PDF, fill it in, save it and then send it to us by email. That way you also have a copy of your bids yourself.
On the written bid form and via Pre-bids (on RietdijkLive), you may bid any amount on lots that you wish. as long as it is above the starting price (“inzet” in Dutch). The increases in the hall and via RietdijkLive follow a fixed schedule.
